The Pocono Mountains Art Group, also known as PMAG or PMA Group, is the first and oldest major art organization that was established in the Pocono Mountains region and enjoys a full, rich history of ongoing artistic and cultural contributions to the community at large.
The Pocono Mountains Art Group is a friendly, non-profit, community-based organization of visual artists who are dedicated to the education, display and furtherance of art in the Pocono Mountains community.
As one of our keystone educational programs, we offer TWO annual art scholarships to area graduating high school seniors. The first is the Jack Farley Memorial Scholarship to help fund upcoming college art studies. The second is the Sally Millspaugh Memorial Scholarship, funded through the private funding by her daughter, Joy Warner. It provides a cash stipend to a student majoring specifically in Art Education at Penn State University. If you know of deserving graduating local high school seniors who would qualify for either of these scholarships and would like to nominate him/her for consideration for our 2014 art scholarship, kindly forward the pertinent data to the Pocono Mountains Art Group!
PMAG Meetings are held from 7:00 to 9:00 pm in the Community Room of the Western Pocono Community Library located at 2000 Pilgrim Way, just off Route 115, in Brodheadsville, on the second Tuesday of September, October, November, March, April, and May.
Following a brief business meeting, Pocono Mountains Art Group members and their guests enjoy a delicious gustatory treat provided by our Social Committeenheaded by Barbara Daskal and Cindy Hargrave, immediately followed by an entertaining and educational presentation by a distinguished regional demonstrating artist. Past painting demonstrations have been rendered by such notable professional artists as the following: Mary Jane Arner, Will Daskal, Bob Doney, Jack Eagle, Pamela Eden, Gary Embich, Edna Palmer Engelhart, Bill Evert, Marie Gelsomino, Bill Hobbs, John James, Dave Miller, Sally Millspaugh, Marcel Shienpont, Jim Smeltz, Ann Sorenson, Marie Tomaselli, Cece Tucker, Tim Weaver and Doug Wilkins, Cullen Yates. It’s always a fun-filled evening!
In addition to our regularly-scheduled monthly meetings and painting demonstrations, we also hold a June picnic as well as a festive Holiday Party and gift-exchange each December to close out the year in a joyous manner.
PMAG is also affiliated with the West End Artists, a group of PMAG members who regularly display their artistic creations in numerous business venues throughout the West End of Monroe County through the LINDA MARNELL MEMORIAL ROATIONAL GALLERY, sites that share in our love of art and willingly provide a public stage for their own clientele to view and savor our artistic efforts. This program is ably administered by Gary Embich.
PARTY CANCELLATION NOTICE:
Sadly, Mother Nature is not cooperating with us today, and the executive committee of PMAG has decided to err on the side of caution and not put any of our members in harms way by driving on tonight's anticipated slick roads; consequently, and reluctantly, tonight's holiday party has been cancelled. We want everyone to stay at home, safe and sound, and not risk any personal injury.
We wish all of our PMAG members a safe, joy-filled, Merry Christmas and the happiest and healthiest of New Years!
George, Will and Barbara
At least twice a year, PMAG hosts members’ art shows for the artistic enjoyment and benefit of the general public and our burgeoning tourist population, including the Annual West End Winter Fine Arts Show at the Western Pocono Community Library in mid-January and the fabled Courthouse Square Art Show in downtown Stroudsburg in early July.
